A Jacobite Gazetteer - TurinPalazzo Reale - Gabinetto delle Miniature |
For the main state rooms of the palace, see this page. For other parts of the palace, see this page. Sometimes some of the rooms in the northeast corner of the “Primo Piano Nobile” can be visited as part of a guided tour. One enters through a doorway in the northeast corner of the courtyard and then goes up the “Scala delle Forbici” (Staircase of the Scissors). The first room to be visited is the “Gabinetto delle Miniature” (Cabinet of the Miniatures). The walls of this room are lined with mirrors in which are set numerous small portraits of members of the Savoy family. In 1758 King Charles Emanuel III of Sardinia commissioned 67 enamel or oil portraits from Giuseppe Lavy.1 These are supplemented with other oil or enamel portraits by other artists.
In this one room it is possible to see portraits of Anne Marie of Orléans, granddaughter of King Charles I, and of her descendants and their spouses, showing how the English and Scottish succession passed to King Charles IV and King Victor.
