Inscription

This church is located on Via San Francesco. It was formerly more popularly called "San Francesco e San Bonaventura", the name of the attached monastery.

On the right wall of the church immediately inside the entrance is the following Latin inscription: 1

D· O· M·
CELSITUDO REGALIS EMA
D. HENRICUS BENED. DUX EBORAC.
EPISCOPUS TUSCULANUS
ALTARE HOC NOVITER ERECTUM
AD HONOREM IMMAC. CONCEPT. B. M. V.
ET SRUM P. FRANCISCI ET BONAVEN. EPI.
SOLEMNITER CONSECRAVIT
DIE IV. NOVEM. AN. DNI MDCCLXII.

To the Glory of Almighty God.
His Royal Highness and Eminence
The Lord Henry Benedict, Duke of York,
Bishop of Frascati,
having newly erected the altar,
solemnly consecrated it
to the honour of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and [to the honour] of Saints Francis and Bonaventure, Bishop,
on the fourth day of November, in the year of our Lord 1762.

Notes

1 Giuseppe Toffanello, Frascati: Civitas Tusculana, terza edizione (Frascati: Edizione Tuscolo, 1966), 177-178, suggests that the inscription may formerly have been in the sanctuary.
