Villa Stuart

Villa Stuart

This villa is located on Monte Mario about two kilometres north of the Vatican. As one travels north, it is on the right side of Via Trionfale (no. 5952) just before Via della Camilluccia forks to the right. Before the time of King James III and VIII, the main entrance was from this corner. 1 A track still runs along the boundary wall and leads to the "palazzina" which is further south on Via Trionfale. King James built the present entrance to the grounds just to the south of the "palazzina". The brass plaque at the entrance today still bears the royal arms. A long tree-lined avenue leads to the main building. It is five storeys high and has been much altered over the years. Over the main doorway is a painted (but inaccurate) version of the royal arms.

Today (2001) the villa serves as a private medical clinic, "Casa di Cura Villa Stuart" (Telephone: 39.06.35420046). One can walk up the tree-lined avenue and around the exterior.
