Villa Lante

Facade
This villa is located at Passeggiata del Gianicolo 10 on the Janiculum Hill south of the Vatican. It was formerly the mother house of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, where they operated a girls' school.

Princess Irmingard and Princess Editha (daughters of King Rupert) lived here in 1940 while they learnt Italian. 1 Within a short time, however, King Rupert's financial situation deteriorated to the extent that he could no longer pay the tuition in spite of assistance from his sister-in-law Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg. Princess Irmingard and Princess Editha then moved with the rest of their family to Villa Bellosguardo near Florence.

Since 1950 the villa has been the home of the Istitutum Romanum Finlandia, the Finnish school of classical studies in Rome.
