Munich - Wittelsbacher Palais


The Wittelsbacher Palais was formerly located at the north-east corner of Briennerstrasse and Turkmenstrasse.

From 1887 to 1918 the palace was the residence of Queen Mary IV and III and her family. Later it became the Munich headquarters for the Gestapo. In 1944 the building was destroyed by Allied bombing.

Today the site is occupied by the Bayerischen Landesbank. On the facade of the bank at the north-east corner of the intersection of Briennerstrasse and Turkmenstrasse there is a German inscription which records the fact that the Wittelsbacher Palais formerly stood here:
